What is a home standby generator?
A permanently installed generator connected to your home’s existing LPG or natural gas supply. It starts automatically within seconds of detecting a power loss and runs for as long as necessary until utility power is restored.
What size generator do I need?
The Guardian range covers 10kVA and 13kVA for single-phase homes and 20kVA for three-phase homes. 10kVA suits essentials; 20kVA gives whole-house coverage. We confirm the right size at a free on-site assessment.
How much does a Generac Guardian cost?
Recommended retail is $7,980 (10kVA), $9,529 (13kVA) and $10,895 (20kVA) inc. GST, generator only. Installation also needs a load transfer switch and gas train kit; we quote the full job upfront.
How loud is a standby generator?
Guardian units run at 55 dB(A) during their Quiet-Test™ exercise (59 dB(A) for 20kVA) and 64–65 dB(A) at normal operating load.
Can I monitor the generator from my phone?
Yes. Guardian generators have built-in Mobile Link™, which sends real-time alerts and shows status and maintenance needs on your phone, tablet or computer. Coverage should be checked for your location.
Do I need an electrician to install a generator?
Yes. Connecting a generator to your home requires a licensed electrician and a load transfer switch so power can’t feed back into the grid. As a Level 2 ASP we can also handle any network-side work.
Can a portable generator power my house?
Only through a correctly installed inlet and changeover switch — Pramac offers an automatic changeover switch for the PMi4500 and P7500i. Never plug a generator into a power point; it can back-feed and is dangerous.
